During the month of autumn of 1993, “THE LIBERIAN PRODUCE MARKETING CORPORATION” (LPMC) approached Bridgeway Corporation, (BC) , for administrative and financial assistance. To achieve that purpose a new company was established under the name “WORLDWIDE IMPEX” (wwi).
“WORLDWIDE IMPEX” was to play a dual role. Firstly to secure the socio-economical function that (LPMC) was founded to fulfill ie. to purchase, process and export Liberian crops, and secondly to preserve Liberia’s status on the international market, as an exporter of cocoa and coffee beans.
On the field purchasing points were established all around the country side. The aim was to reach all farmers, no matter how remote their locations, pay them cash for their crops and transport same to collection points to be eventually hauled to Monrovia for processing and exporting to world markets. The challenge was indeed big and complicated but in time (WWI) managed to overcome most of the difficulties it faced.
On the processing side (2) hot air dryers were imported with a total capacity to process (24) metric tons of fair average quality cocoa beans per day, and a team of employees was trained to do the job. In all an average of 2000 metric tons were exported per season.
